Masculine & Feminine Energy: Identifying Your Core Essence to Experience Greater Balance, Success & Personal Power!

Activating the Archetypal Energies Within

Everything in this world is made up of a mix of feminine (yin) and masculine (yang) energy, including us. These archetypal energies give us a way to understand and describe the qualities of all things, as well as ourselves. All things, and each of us, also has a more dominant energy, that we call a core essence.

When you understand masculine (yang) and feminine (yin) energies, as well as your own core essence, it becomes much easier to manage your own energy, and spend your time being or doing things that align with the flow of your energy, so that you don’t drain your energy, or worse, burn out. This understanding and awareness also sets you up for success in your romantic relationships, as sexual attraction requires a masculine pole and a feminine pole in order for attraction to even exist (like magnets!).

Being Powerfully Feminine in a Masculine World

In this society, masculine energy is what we’re typically more familiar with. It’s the one that society has previously deemed to be more valuable. Both energies are equally necessary and important, however, our society has been primarily focused on work, production, success, achievement, and tangible results, and all these things are inherently masculine. We’ve essentially, and likely unknowingly, been taught to pay attention to, hone, and value more of the masculine energy within ourselves and in the world around us.

Not everybody has a masculine core essence, though. A lot of people have a feminine core essence, especially a lot of women. It’s not always the case that a woman has a feminine core essence, but a lot of the time it is. The same goes for men: not all men have a masculine core essence, in fact some have a feminine core essence. The point of this is to understand what your core essence is, so that you can learn to hone it and operate from it in a very empowered way, so you can experience great success.

If a woman is core essence feminine, and she’s spending most of her time operating from a masculine energy, and thinking that that’s her most valuable place to be, she’s going to burn herself out over and over and over again. She’s going to become haggard. The solution to this is for her to become aware of her feminine core essence, and to become aware of when she’s tapping into her masculine energy vs. when she’s tapping into her feminine energy, so that she can course correct and shift back into balance before burnout strikes.

For women who are core essence feminine, they may spend a lot of their work day in their masculine energy, especially if they’re leading teams, holding executive positions, and/or running a company. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this. However, the issue arises if she doesn’t know how to turn it off, or how to nourish her feminine side.

This can be particularly problematic when she leaves the office and goes home–especially if she’s in a relationship or dating, because when she comes home she’ll need to take off her masculine mask and drop into her feminine energy in order to maintain a sexual charge in the relationship, and truly feel that her needs are being met.

What’s Your Core Essence?

Get quiet for a moment, and ask yourself: is it more important to me to be respected, or to feel deeply cherished and loved? You get to have both, but for the sake of this exercise, choose the one that’s slightly more important to you.

Another way to identify your core essence: say you’re in a relationship with one other person, and one of you gets to take slightly more priority in being respected for their vision/decisions, and the other gets priority in being loved/cherished for exactly who they are, no matter what. Which one means more to you?

If you said respect, your core essence is likely masculine.

If you said love, your core essence is likely feminine.

Remember, all of us have a unique combination of both of these foundational energies, and we tap into each of them at different points throughout the day. Let’s take a closer look…

Qualities & actions that are typically more masculine: organizing, structuring, blocking time, being on time, planning, rational and logical thinking, linear processes, being pragmatic, being precise, being passionate, the ability to compartmentalize, growth through constructive criticism, and the desires for respect, freedom, quiet, and emptiness.
In the realm of relationships and relating, the masculine person typically is the one who takes the lead and calls the shots. They typically bring the humor and the depth of consciousness, and have palpable presence when they walk into a room.

The masculine is typically more focused on moving forward in a linear way, thinking, using the mind, being very logical, rational & pragmatic, and reaching the end point of success.

Qualities & actions that are typically more feminine: trust, intuition, love, being in flow with the body and the rhythms of life, feeling the heart’s deepest desires, expressing emotion, creating (art, projects, businesses, babies, etc.), sensuality (as in, being super in tune with one’s senses), movement, empathy, embodiment, spontaneity, playfulness, beauty, radiance, openness, growth through praise, spirituality, relating and relationships.

The feminine within us desires to be seen, heard and loved, loves to feel nourished, and wants to be able to show up as herself and be loved & cherished no matter what: in anger, in sadness, when she’s not totally put together, AND in her pleasure, her power, and in her brightest light.

The feminine energy is more flowing, and is more based on intuition, wisdom, and feeling, and really being connected to the body (as opposed to strictly being in the mind). Feminine energy is juicy and needs to be nourished.

Reflections & Applications

Once you’ve identified your core essence, start to explore a bit more. Become aware of when you’re tapping into your masculine energy vs. your feminine energy throughout the day, and from situation to situation. Notice which role you tend to play at work vs. at home, in romantic situations vs. with family, or while parenting.

Notice which qualities of each archetypal energy feel comfortable for you, and which feel most uncomfortable. Notice which may be your greatest gifts. Notice which qualities you’ve felt you’ve needed to stifle in the past—at work, or in relationships.

Scan through the qualities of each again, and determine which ones you feel you spend a lot of time tapping into, which ones you might benefit from tapping into more often to stay in balance, and which ones are associated with your core essence, that you can work on honing and working with even more, to feel more nourished, whole, and truly yourself.

As a coach and healer who works exclusively with core essence feminine women, I’ve noticed the immense power and radiance that a woman embodies when she starts consciously spending more of her time in her feminine energy. When a woman whose core essence is feminine learns to start spending more of her time consciously connecting with her body and her feelings, and learning to utilize her intuition to make wise and empowered decisions, this is when she starts to feel more on purpose, more in flow, and more fully alive! This is when she starts to feel more like her true self, she deeply heals, and she starts to break through the glass ceiling of her potential.
